Property & Evidence Division
Responsibilities & Services
The Property and Evidence Division is responsible for the preservation, destruction, and release of all items placed in their care. Civilian Property and Evidence Specialists have been trained in proper storage techniques to ensure that the integrity of property and evidence is maintained. The Division currently stores over 25,000 items of evidence, found property, and property held for “safekeeping."
Upholding the security and control of all items placed in the care of property and evidence is an essential part of the job. Detailed records of transactions involving items of evidence are maintained in order to preserve the "chain of custody."
Property Specialists are required to ensure Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances are met related to seizures, forfeitures, prisoner property, and lost or found property. Additionally, they lend support to officers with search warrants and process large volumes of evidence. Extensive inventories are conducted on all narcotics, weapons, and currency, which are categorized as high risk items.

To request an appointment you will need to call the Property and Evidence Division and leave a message including your name, case number, and a phone number we can contact you. A property specialist will return your call within 24 hours. The Property and Evidence Division is normally staffed Monday - Friday, excluding holidays.
