BPD Divisions
Administration
Goal: To oversee the activities of the Department and make decisions regarding department policies, programs, personnel, and budget; to evaluate the structure of the Department, reorganizing as appropriate, to better meet the needs of the department and community; to promote a team environment to insure the highest of standards in the use of resources, working conditions, customer service, strategic planning, budget preparation, development of partnerships, program and project implementation and management. To oversee the professional standards review process and support accreditation through professional policy management.
Support Services
Goal: To aid internal and external customers by supporting field operations and customer service functions via interpersonal assistance, data entry and collection of police reports and documents, the compilation and dissemination of statistics and information to officers and staff, and the tracking of ongoing and specialized training of department members. To administer the Department budget and the city’s alarm ordinance.
Field Services
Goal: To provide a safe and livable community by enforcing all laws, utilizing and coordinating patrol and investigative resources to proactively reduce the opportunity for criminal activity. To lessen the fear of crime and combat criminal activity by working in partnership with citizens, businesses, and other agencies to increase public awareness and confidence, and identify and resolve issues of concern to the community, by employing strategic planning and problem oriented policing methods. To provide safe and effective movement of traffic within the city through the implementation of aggressive traffic enforcement and community education.
Investigative Services
Goal: To aggressively investigate serious crimes against persons and property, to include: murder, assault, sex abuse, child abuse, rape, burglary, major theft, and computer crimes. To provide investigative support and assistance to patrol, other divisions within the police department, and outside law enforcement agencies. To develop and share intelligence information within the police department as well as with other agencies, to ensure effective and efficient follow-up of all major crimes which require investigative personnel resources.
To aggressively investigate narcotics traffic and gang related crimes to a disposition via a team approach in partnership with other area criminal justice agencies. Monitor and document other gang related activities, and integrate and coordinate the informant activities with the Patrol Division.
Community Policing
Goal: To sustain and enhance our partnership with the community, utilizing community oriented policing and problem solving to address the fear of crime, and those livability issues that are of concern to citizens.
