On March 16, 2009 Namegabe Mushegero, bludgeoned his wife, Nabintu Kalamba, to death with a hammer at their residence in Beaverton. Their 8 year old son Akili and their 13 year old son Amina witnessed the murder along with one of their older sisters. This was a very traumatic event and the things these children saw are incomprehensible.
The children are now living with a relative; however, the relative is not equipped with the finances or the living space to take on three additional dependants. The relative taking the children in is moving to a new residence to help accommodate the space requirements. In addition, basic needs such as furniture, clothing, shoes, and food are greatly needed.
Here are some of the ways you can help
At this time the Beaverton Police Department and the Beaverton Police Association are donating time and money to help these kids and their situation. Beaverton Police have facilitated the opening of a bank account to help cover expenses for those basic immediate needs. Beaverton Police are partnering with the community to help the kids with the short term needs and possibly assist with long term needs as well. The account will initially be overseen by members of the police department, with a two signature requirement for any distribution of funds. The account will eventually be turned over to a trust fund attorney for guardianship.
People can help by going to their nearest US Bank and donating to the KeleKele fund.
Important Information
Donations collected on behalf of Akili and Amina will be placed in a trust fund to help assist in short and long term needs. The monies collected will be allocated towards food, clothing, shelter, education, and medical needs.
